Caprolactam is made mainly from cyclohexane obtained from crude oil, ammonia, and sulfur. It is used as a raw material for nylon fibers, for use in clothing, tire cords, fishing nets, and carpets, as well as for nylon resins, for use in manufacturing mechanical parts and engineering plastics.
Capro produces 270,000 tons of caprolactam yearly in the form of molten and flake status, accounting for about 80% of the domestic consumption amount.
Caprolactam is supplied to the nylon manufacturers and ninety percent of caprolactam is used for producing nylon 6 fiber, and 10% for engineering plastics. Its total consumption amount increases by 2-3% each year.
